When Overland Expo announced their first ever expo to be held on the East Coast, Aluminess Products was one of the first to sign up as a vendor! While we have been shipping our products to East Coast customers for years, we hoped to be able to meet new folks who had not seen our line of aluminum bumpers, roof racks, ladders, and other off-road accessories.

We left San Diego on September 16th and stopped along our planned route to see a few customers, including Pro Van Industries(Tiger Motorhomes) in West Columbia, South Carolina. Mark and Joe met us at the shop and gave us a tour of their facility. They were in the process of installing two of our custom bumpers! Dave and Mark crawled under the vehicle and discovered some design changes to incorporate a winch while saving time and money!

We spent some time on the Outer Bank exploring the Wright Brothers exhibits in Kitty Hawk and experienced our first “Nor’easter” — the Outer Banks roads nearly disappeared under water! We were literally pushing water over the front bumper of our van! We then drove onto the Blue Ridge Parkway with some of our customers for beautiful scenery and camping. If you are ever in that area, be sure not to miss the Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley, NC! The owner, Dale, gave us a personal guided tour through his 38,000 sq. ft. museum, which houses over 300 rare motorcycles, exhibits, photos, and historical memorabilia.

On Thursday, Oct 2nd, we finally arrived at the Taylor Ranch in Asheville, North Carolina to set up for the expo. The venue was perfect with rolling green hills, a man-made lake, and lots of area for weekend campers attending the expo. Various vendors showed up all day long and we were happy to see lots of our products on their display vehicles; Sportsmobile, All-Terrain Warrior, Four Wheel Camper, U-Joint, Pro Van (Tiger Motorhomes), Global Expedition Vehicles, and Earthroamer, to name a few!

Hundreds of people who had pre-purchased Expo East camping passes arrived and set up. The show opened Friday at 8AM and the crowds came rolling in — people from just about every state east of the Mississippi came to attend the expo! The weather really fluctuated through the weekend; from a hot 84 degrees on Thursday, a torrential downpour of rain for two hours on Friday, to a near-freezing 34 degrees on Sunday morning, but that didn’t stop people from buying expo tickets or having a good time at all the events!

The Overland Expo East was a great opportunity to show our products and answer questions. We anticipate lots of future business — several orders have already been placed! We decided it was time to get back to work, so we went in all-out “Road Warrior” mode and covered 2,400 miles in 3 days!

The East Coast Expo was a major, success and Aluminess Products will definitely be back next year!
